Venancio Ramos (born June 20, 1959 in Artigas ) is a former Uruguayan football player .

Player career

The striker , nicknamed Chicharra, began his career in his homeland at Peñarol Montevideo . There he was involved in several titles between 1977 and 1983. During this time he was able to win a total of four Uruguayan championship titles (1978, 1979, 1981, 1982) with his team. In addition, he managed to win both the Copa Libertadores and the World Cup with Peñarol in 1982 . In 1984 he moved to Europe for RC Lens . After 18 goals in 72 games for the French club, he returned to South America two years later and was hired for one season at the Argentinian club Independiente . He then returned to his home country, where, in addition to stints at Racing , Defensor Sporting and El Tanque Sisley, he also played for Nacional Montevideo , the second big Montevideo club and arch-rival of his home club Peñarol.

National team

Ramos won with the Uruguayan U-20 national team the title at the U-20 South American Football Championship in 1977 (seven games / two goals) and finished fourth with the team at the 1977 Junior World Cup . He was also a member of the Uruguayan senior team , with which he not only victoriously played the Mundialito at the turn of the year 1980/81, but also took part in the 1986 World Cup in Mexico . At this tournament he was number 19 on his back. He was also a member of the team that won the title at the 1982 Nehru Cup . In total, he completed from his debut on May 24, 1978 to his last appearance on May 30, 1991 41 internationals, in which he scored five goals. He also took part with Uruguay in the Beach Soccer World Cup in 1997 and finished second. At this event he finished tied with the Brazilian junior with eleven goals scored at the top of the top scorer list.
