1997 U-20 South American Football Championship

The XVIII. The 1997 U-20 South American Football Championship took place in Chile from January 16, 1997 to February 7, 1997 .

The matches to determine the tournament winner were held in the cities of Iquique , La Serena and Coquimbo . The game was played in two groups, followed by a final phase, also in group mode. The national teams of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela took part in the tournament. Argentina emerged victorious from the event . Places two to four went to the national teams from Brazil , Paraguay and Uruguay . The top scorer of the tournament was Brazilian Adaílton Martins Bolzan with eight goals scored .
