Leandro Damián Cufré (born May 9, 1978 in La Plata ) is an Argentine football player .

Career

The defender began his career in his home country with Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata (1996–2001), then played in Italy until 2006, a. a. for AS Roma and then moved to AS Monaco .

Cufré won the Junior World Cup in Malaysia in 1997 and made his debut for the Argentine national team in 2000 .

He was nominated in the Argentine squad for the 2006 World Cup in Germany , but only played one game. On June 30, 2006 he was the first player in the history of the World Cup to receive a red card after the end of the game in the quarter-finals against Germany after a kick in the genital area by Per Mertesacker , although he was not used in this game. He was banned from playing four competitive games by the disciplinary committee of the world association FIFA . He also had to pay a fine of 6,100 euros (10,000 Swiss francs).

On January 13, 2009, the Italian embassy in Buenos Aires revoked Cufré's Italian citizenship for alleged forging passports . The French football association then suspended Cufré for an indefinite period of time for Ligue 1 . On January 29, 2009, Cufré moved to Berlin for the Bundesliga club Hertha BSC until the end of the 2008/09 season .

For the 2009/10 season, Cufre first signed a two-year contract with his hometown club Gimnasia La Plata in Argentina, but then moved to Dinamo Zagreb .
