Career
society
Diego Placente began his career in his hometown of Buenos Aires with the Argentinos Juniors , from 1997 to 2001 he played for River Plate , with whom he celebrated three Argentine championship titles. In 2001 the defender moved to the Bundesliga in Germany and played for Bayer 04 Leverkusen until 2005 . With the Werkself, Placente became runner-up in 2002 and reached the final of the UEFA Champions League . However, they lost this with 1: 2 against Real Madrid as well as the final of the DFB Cup with 2: 4 against FC Schalke 04 . Placente's former coach Klaus Toppmöller in Leverkusen described him as a very good tactician, whom he "would have loved to send home from tactics training" because he could already do everything. At the beginning of the 2005/06 season, Diego Placente left Leverkusen and moved to the Spanish first division promoted Celta Vigo , where his contract was dissolved in September 2007. From January 1, 2008, he played for six months at CA San Lorenzo de Almagro in the Argentine first division before moving to Girondins Bordeaux in the summer of 2008 . In 2010, however, he rejoined San Lorenzo de Almagro. There he completed 16 games in the 2010/11 season.
For the 2011/12 season he then moved to the opposite side of the Río de la Plata in the Uruguayan capital to Nacional Montevideo . In that season he was used in 15 games (no goal) of the Primera División, four games of the Copa Libertadores 2012 and two matches of the Copa Sudamericana 2011 and won the Uruguayan championship with the Montevideans.
In August 2012, Placente moved back to his parent club, the Argentinos Juniors .
In November 2013, Placente was arrested in Germany for criminal tax proceedings from Leverkusen times.
National team
Placente made his debut for the Argentina national team in 2000 against Mexico. With the Albiceleste, he took part in the 2002 World Cup , the 2004 Copa America and the 2005 Confederations Cup . However, he was not included in the Argentine squad for the 2006 World Cup .
