The XV. The 1991 U-20 South American Football Championship took place in Venezuela from February 1, 1991 to February 17, 1991 .

The matches to determine the tournament winner were held in the cities of Puerto Ordaz and San Cristóbal . The national teams of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela took part in the tournament. The game was played in two groups, followed by a final phase, also in group mode. Brazil emerged victorious from the event . Places two to four went to the national teams from Argentina , Uruguay and Paraguay . Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay thus qualified for the Junior Soccer World Cup in Portugal in 1991 .

The top scorer of the tournament was the Argentine Juan Esnáider with seven goals.
