1985 South American Under-20 Football Championship

The XVII. The 1985 U-20 South American Football Championship took place in Paraguay from January 8, 1985 to January 30, 1985 .

The matches to determine the tournament winner were held in Asunción . The national teams of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela took part in the tournament.

The game was played in two groups, followed by a final phase, also in group mode. Brazil emerged victorious from the event . Places two to four went to the national teams from Paraguay , Colombia and Uruguay . The first three teams qualified for the 1985 World Youth Championship in Soviet Union .

The top scorer of the tournament was the Brazilian Romário with five goals scored.
