The XIX. The 1999 U-20 South American Football Championship took place in Argentina from January 5, 1999 to January 25, 1999 .

The matches to determine the tournament winner were held in the cities of Mar del Plata and Tandil . The game was played in two groups, followed by a final phase, also in group mode. The national teams of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela took part in the tournament. Argentina emerged victorious from the event .
