Víctor Diogo , full name Víctor Hugo Diogo Silva , (born April 19, 1958 in Treinta y Tres ) is a former Uruguayan football player . He is the father of soccer player Carlos Diogo .

The 1.79 meter tall right defender Diogo was a member of the Peñarols squad in the Primera División from 1976 and 1978 to 1984 . During this period he was with the Aurinegros in 1978, 1979, 1981 and 1982 a total of four Uruguayan champions. He also won the Copa Libertadores and the World Cup with Peñarol in 1982 . In 1983 he reached the finals of the Copa with his teammates again . However, Diogo's starting eleven did not help to prevent the defeat against Gremio Porto Alegre . In the finals, Diogo was always in the starting line-up. From 1984 to 1989 he played for Palmeiras São Paulo in Brazil .

National team

Diogo was part of the squad of the Uruguayan U-20 selection , which won the title at the U-20 South American Championship in Venezuela in 1977 . During the tournament he was used by trainer Raúl Bentancor seven times (one goal). In the same year he finished fourth with the team at the 1977 Junior World Cup in Tunisia . He was also part of the Celeste squad two years earlier at the 1975 Pan American Games . Diogo was also a member of the senior national team of Uruguay , for which he completed 34 international matches between September 20, 1979 and June 13, 1986. He scored an international goal. Diogo played for the national team at the 1979 Copa America . He won the Mundialito 1980/81 and the Copa América 1983 with the Celeste . Diogo also took part in the 1986 World Cup with Uruguay . There he was used in all three group matches .
