The 4th FIFA Junior World Cup (officially: FIFA / Coca-Cola Cup - II World Youth Championship ) took place in Mexico from June 2nd to 19th, 1983 . The Brazilian team was able to secure the world title with a 1-0 win against South American rivals Argentina.
The best player of the tournament was the Brazilian Geovani , who was also the top scorer with 6 goals.
With an average of 36,099 spectators per game, this tournament was so far the Junior World Championship with the highest average attendance. The 110,000 spectators at the Azteca Stadium of Mexico City in the finale are also a record for a junior world championship game.
From the German-speaking countries only Austria was able to qualify for the World Cup finals, but retired from the preliminary round without points or goalless.
