Alfred Tatar (born August 8, 1963 in Zillingdorf ) is a former Austrian football player and coach . He is currently working again as an expert for the pay TV provider Sky . There he acquired the reputation of a "trainer-philosopher" through his critical, sarcastic and unconventional comments.

He started as a player at SC Wiener Neustadt, where he also completed an apprenticeship at the local performance center, after which he was active at First Vienna FC , VSE St. Pölten and the Wiener Sport-Club , among others .

First positions as trainer were: Lokomotiv Moscow , Amkar Perm , Admira Wacker (2003/04) (each as assistant trainer of Raschid Rachimow ) and SV Ried (July 1, 2001 to June 30, 2002). The Rieder took ninth place below him and therefore managed to stay in the league.

From August 30, 2010 until the end of the 2013 season, Tatar was the coach of the traditional Viennese club. In the 2010/11 season Vienna was penultimate in front of relegated SV Gratkorn , but coach Alfred Tatar managed to win the relegation games against the champions of the Regionalliga Ost, SC-ESV Parndorf 1919 , 3-0 and 2-1. In the following year, the Döblinger team secured eighth place under Tatar in the 36th and last round and thus kept relegation in the first division. In the 2012/13 season, Vienna did an excellent job, finishing 7th with 46 points. As a coach, he also caused a sensation with unconventional sayings, including his antithesis statement about FC Barcelona . At the end of the season, however, the Vienna and Tatar announced the amicable separation.

Tatar was presented at a press conference on June 10, 2013 as the new coach of Bundesliga relegated SV Mattersburg . Because his team was only in 6th place after twelve rounds, he was given leave of absence on October 7, 2013.

Since the 2015/16 season, Alfred Tatar has been working as an expert again for the pay TV provider Sky . At first only for the second-class first division , from the 2016/17 season also for the Bundesliga .
