2013 venues in the UAE

The 15th U-17 World Cup took place in October and November 2013 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It is the second FIFA tournament to be held in the UAE after the 2003 U-20 World Cup . The German team had not qualified for the EM 2013 and therefore not for the World Cup either. The U-17 team from Nigeria became world champions, winning for the fourth time and is now the sole record world champion in this age group. In the final, defending champions Mexico were defeated, who, like the third-placed team from Sweden, played in a preliminary group with Nigeria. This is the first time that three teams from a preliminary group have taken the top three places in a FIFA tournament.

mode

The mode corresponds to that last used at the 1994 Men's World Cup in the United States . The 24 qualified teams are divided into 6 groups. The four teams in each group play once against each other team in the group. The group winners and runners-up as well as the four best thirds in the group qualify for the round of 16 from which the knockout system continues. The first two games of each group take place as a double event at one location; for the third group game, two teams must travel to another location. The last games take place in parallel for each group, although there are also double events with games from other groups. The first four games of the round of 16 and the games for places 1 and 3 will also take place as a double event.

Preliminary round

The preliminary round is held in six groups with four teams each. The six group winners and runners-up as well as the four best thirds in the group qualify for the round of 16. All times refer to the local time. The group stage draw took place on August 26, 2013 in Abu Dhabi.
