Marco Antonio Rodríguez Moreno (born November 10, 1973 in Mexico City ) is a retired Mexican football referee .

Career

Moreno was a FIFA referee from 1999 to 2014 . His first international match he led on 3 March 1999 with the game Paraguay against Guatemala .

Rodríguez played at various international tournaments: at the U17 World Championships in 2003, 2005 and 2013, at the U20 World Championship in 2009, at the Club World Championships in 2007 (including the finals) and 2012, at the Copa America in 2004 and in five CONCACAF Gold Cups (2005, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013).

The 2006 World Cup in Germany was his first major tournament. He was supported by his assistants José Luis Camargo ( Mexico ) and Leonel Leal ( Costa Rica ). At the age of 32 he was the youngest referee in this World Cup . Rodríguez was in charge of the England versus Paraguay and Ivory Coast versus Serbia and Montenegro games .

At the 2010 World Cup , he led the matches between Germany and Australia and Chile against Spain .

In 2014 he took part in his third World Cup, where he led the semi-finals between Brazil and Germany , which ended his career.

He is also active as a football coach, physical education teacher, entrepreneur, speaker and ambassador for health and as a Christian missionary for humanitarian aid. Because of his hairstyle, he is often mocked with the nickname Chiquidrácula ( German  Little Dracula ), which refers to a person on the Mexican children's broadcast of the 1980s and 1990s Chiquilladas .
