from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Carlos Alberto Batres Gonzalez (born April 2, 1968 in Guatemala City ) is a Guatemalan football referee . He was appointed FIFA referee on January 1, 1996 and chaired his first international match between Panama and Canada on October 27, 1996 during qualifying for the 1998 World Cup .

Since then, he has directed various games at major international tournaments, club competitions, World Cup qualifications and the Summer Olympics . Batres should also be assigned to the 2006 World Cup . He had to stop the fitness tests during the assistant referee course at the end of March, however, because a cruciate ligament tear he suffered in December 2005 had not yet completely healed. Two years later he attracted attention when he sent six players off the field in the course of " pack formation " from the 85th minute during the encounter between New England Revolution and CF Atlante (1-0) in the SuperLiga in 2008 . FIFA selected the Guatemalan as referee for the 2010 World Cup . In this he is supported by Leonel Leal from Costa Rica and Carlos Pastrana from Honduras as line judges .
