Peter O'Leary

Peter O'Leary (born March 3, 1972 ) is a New Zealand football referee .

He has headed the New Zealand Football League since 1999 and has been an international FIFA referee since 2003 . On October 9, 2004, he directed his first international match, the encounter between the Solomon Islands and Australia . Since 2005 he has also been a referee in the Australian A-League .

O'Leary lives in Hamilton and works full time as a teacher .

Tournaments

O'Leary's first international tournament as a referee was the 2007 U-20 World Cup in Canada, where he led the two preliminary round matches between Uruguay and Jordan and between Nigeria and Costa Rica . He was also used at the 2007 , 2008 , 2009 , 2011 and 2012 FIFA Club World Cups .

He also worked as a referee at the U-20 World Cup in Egypt in 2007 . He headed the preliminary round matches between Italy and Trinidad and Tobago and between Hungary and the UAE . He was also the referee of the round of 16 match between the eventual tournament winners Ghana and South Africa (2: 1 aet). O'Leary was also appointed for the following three editions of this tournament from 2009 to 2013.

O'Leary was on the list of fourth officials at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and was used six times (including one in the round of 16). He took part in the 2012 Olympic Games and in the summer of 2014 whistled a group stage game at the World Cup in Brazil, the game between Nigeria and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Edin Džeko had scored a regular goal when the score was 0-0, but O'Leary refused to recognize it. Bosnia lost 1-0.

In 2015 he participated in the Asian Cup in Australia .
