Milorad Mažić ( Serbian - Cyrillic Милорад Мажић ; born March 23, 1973 in Titov Vrbas , SFR Yugoslavia , today Serbia ) is a former Serbian football referee and was an international FIFA referee from 2009 to 2020 . In addition to appearances in the Serbian SuperLiga , he also directed games in the national cup competition , the Romanian League 1 and the Qatar Stars League . Mažić was also used in the 2011 U-21 European Championship and the 2013 U-20 World Championship as well as various European competitions, including the Champions League and the Europa League . Mažić was one of the 25 referees of the 2014 World Cup as well as of the 18 referees of the 2016 European Championship .

In August 2020, Mažić ended his international career as a FIFA referee and signed a two-year contract with the Referees Department of the Football Association of Cyprus .

Career

In the Serbian SuperLiga , Mažić led Belgrade derby particularly often . Mažić has been an international referee for FIFA since 2009 . Since the 2010/2011 season he has been in frequent use in the Europa League . In 2012, he was in charge of the 2012/13 Europa League semi-final match at Istanbul's Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium between Fenerbahçe Istanbul and Benfica Lisbon . Previously, he was in charge of the quarter-final match between Tottenham Hotspur and FC Basel on White Hart Lane . During the Champions League 2012/13 , he led the round of 16 match between FC Barcelona and AC Milan . In the 2013/14 Champions League he was a referee in Borussia Dortmund's 1-0 win at the Westfalenstadion against Manchester City . He received good criticism from the kicker sports magazine . In the past Champions League season he whistled for the games Arsenal - SSC Napoli , FC Barcelona - AC Milan, Manchester United - Shakhtar Donetsk and the quarter-final pairing Paris Saint-Germain against Chelsea . In the same season he led the semi-finals between Valencia CF and Sevilla FC in the 2013/14 Europa League and was used as the fourth official in the subsequent final.

In 2011 Mažić headed three games of the 2011 European Under-21 Championship in Denmark . At the U-20 World Cup in Turkey in 2013 , he headed two games and was appointed fourth official twice. He was in charge of international matches for qualifying for the 2014 World Cup , including the German qualifying match against Austria in the Allianz Arena , which Germany won 3-0. On January 15, 2014 Mažić was named together with his assistants Dalibor Đurđević and Milovan Ristić as one of 25 referee teams for the 2014 World Cup. On June 14, 2014, FIFA announced that Mažić would whistle the first German preliminary round match against Portugal. Mažić also whistled the preliminary round match on June 21, 2014 between Argentina and Iran. So far, he has had 58 appearances at international level, including seven matches in the premier class.

On December 15, 2015, Mažić was nominated as referee for the 2016 European Football Championship . Along with the German Felix Brych, he is one of the 7 referees who were also allowed to lead games at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil .

On April 27, 2017, he was nominated by FIFA as one of nine referees for the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia . There he directed two games, including the final between Chile and Germany . FIFA nominated him for the 2018 World Cup on March 29, 2018 . Milovan Ristić and Dalibor Đurđević accompany him as assistants . On May 7, 2018, he was selected to lead the 2017/18 UEFA Champions League final in Kiev . As assistants supported him when meeting Real Madrid against Liverpool Milovan Ristić and Dalibor Djurdjevic, Fourth official was the Frenchman Clément Turpin . As Hintertorschiedsrichter were Nenad Đokić and Danilo Grujic recognized as a substitute assistant Nemanja Petrovic .

Private

Mažić is a full-time director of a company in Novi Sad that is active in the meat production industry. He is married and speaks not only Serbo-Croatian and Serbian but also English .
