Adolf Prokop (born February 2, 1939 in Altenbuch , Trautenau district ) is a former German football referee .

Between 1958 and 1988 he officiated as referee for the German Football Association of the GDR and between 1969 and 1988 came to 283 game matches in the top division of the GDR, the league . From 1973 to 1988 he was on the FIFA referee list and completed 87 referee missions in this area (27 international matches, 60 European Cup matches).

As an internationally recognized and one of the most successful German FIFA referees, he took part in the Football World Cups in Argentina in 1978 , in Spain in 1982 , in the European Football Championships in Italy in 1980 and in France in 1984, and in the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal .

He directed three finals of the European club competitions between the big teams of the time. Under his direction were the European Supercup final (1) in 1979 between Nottingham Forest and FC Barcelona (1-0), the UEFA Cup final (1) in 1981 between Ipswich Town and AZ Alkmaar (3-0) and 1984 the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup , which Juventus Turin won 2-1 against FC Porto in Basel .

In national football, doubts arose about its neutrality. As an officer in the special service of the Ministry for State Security , during his time as referee of the GDR Oberliga, he was assumed to be partisanship favorable to the dominant BFC Dynamo there .

Adolf Prokop lives in Erfurt . He was a member of the referee committee of the Thuringian Football Association , a referee observer and is often asked to referee at celebrity games.
