Marc Batta

Marc Batta (born November 1, 1953 in Marseille ) is a former French football referee .

Batta started directing football matches at the age of 17. In his career he has led around 130 international matches, including the highlight of the 1996/97 UEFA Cup final first leg between Schalke 04 and Inter Milan . In France he was used in a three-digit number of games in the professional leagues ( Ligue 1 , Ligue 2 and National (D3) ). He was also the 23rd man in the 1994 cup final between AJ Auxerre and HSC Montpellier .

At the 1998 World Cup in France, he was used in two functions, as a match director in the preliminary round match Romania against England and in the round of 16 between Brazil and Chile , and also as fourth official .

Since July 2004 he has been working as the successor to Michel Vautrot as Directeur national de l'arbitrage, i.e. as the person primarily responsible for refereeing in France at the French football association FFF . He also has a seat on the UEFA Referees Committee .
