Carlos Velasco Carballo

Carlos Velasco Carballo (* 16th March 1971 in Madrid ) is a Spanish FIFA - football referee .

He is affiliated with the Madrid Football Association ( Federación de Fútbol de Madrid ) and directs matches in the Spanish Primera División . He made his league debut in 2004 in the game between FC Barcelona and Sevilla FC . Since 2008 he has also been active internationally. His first international match he directed was the friendly between Israel and Chile on March 26, 2008. Carlos Velasco Carballo is an engineer and works in the Madrid office of the Texan company Fluor Corporation .

On April 26, 2011 he was in charge of the semi-final first leg of the Champions League between FC Schalke 04 and Manchester United .

Carballo was appointed by UEFA on May 16, 2011 to lead the 2010/11 Europa League finals in the Dublin Arena .

On December 20, 2011, UEFA announced that Carballo was one of twelve referees at the 2012 European Football Championship . He directed a total of two games. On June 8, 2012, he led the opening game of the tournament between Poland and Greece in Warsaw , which ended 1: 1.

Carballo is also one of the referees used at the 2014 World Cup. His performance in the quarter-finals between Brazil and Colombia has been criticized.

On December 15, 2015, Carballo was nominated as referee for the 2016 European Football Championship . Along with the German Felix Brych, he is one of the seven referees who were also allowed to lead games at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil .
