Sergei Gennadjewitsch Karassjow ( Russian Сергей Геннадьевич Карасёв ; English transcription : Sergey Karasev ; born June 12, 1979 in Moscow ) is a Russian football referee .

Career

Karassjow made his first division debut in the Russian Premier League on April 6, 2008 in the game Krylja Sowetow Samara against Lutsch-Energija Vladivostok (2-1). In 2010 he was called up by FIFA , and he led his first international match on September 2, 2011 in the European Championship qualification when the 2-0 draw between Luxembourg and Romania . Since 2012 he has been assigned to the third highest UEFA referee category “First Group”. On February 14, 2013, he headed the Europa League first leg between Borussia Mönchengladbach and Lazio Rom (3: 3), in which he whistled three legitimate penalty kicks for the "foals". In the group stage of the Champions League 2014/15 he falsely whistled a hand penalty for Schalke 04 in the 90th minute when the score was 3: 3 , which resulted in the game being won 4: 3. Sporting Lisbon had previously made up a 3-1 deficit.

As a career highlight so far, Karasjow was nominated by UEFA in December 2015 as one of 18 referees for the European Championship in France . He also officiated at the 2016 Olympic football tournament in Brazil .

On March 29, 2018, FIFA nominated him as the only Russian referee for the 2018 World Cup . Anton Averianow and Tikhon Kalugin accompany him as assistants .
