Szymon Marciniak (2013)

Szymon Marciniak (born July 7, 1981 in Płock ) is a Polish football referee . He has been on the FIFA list since 2011 .

Career

Szymon Marciniak originally pursued a career as a football player and has also been a football referee since 2002. He gave up his own playing career in favor of a career as a referee and has been a referee in the highest Polish league, the Ekstraklasa , since 2008 .

Marciniak directed his first international game in March 2011 in the qualification for the U-17 European Football Championship 2011 between the teams of Norway and Belarus . A year later he directed his first international match , a friendly between Israel and Ukraine .

He made his debut in the group stage of the Champions League in 2014 when Juventus Turin and Malmö FF met .

He experienced his first international career highlight in 2015 when he was nominated for the U-21 European Football Championship in 2015 and, after two appearances in the group phase, including the opening game, was entrusted with leading the final between Sweden and Portugal . Subsequently, UEFA included him in the elite category of top European referees.

In December 2015, UEFA announced that Marciniak was one of the 18 referees to be used at the 2016 European Football Championship in France . At the tournament he headed a total of 3 games, including Austria's last group game against Iceland , and the German team's round of 16 against Slovakia . FIFA nominated him for the 2018 World Cup on March 29, 2018 . Tomasz Listkiewicz and Paweł Sokolnicki accompany him as assistants .
