Mario van der Ende
Mario van der Ende (born March 28, 1956 in The Hague ) is a former Dutch football player , football coach and football referee . At the end of his active career, he worked as a referee official in Saudi Arabia and as a referee observer at the umbrella organizations FIFA and UEFA . He also founded his recruitment firm Endless Progression in 2007 .
Career as a football referee
At the beginning of his career, the 187 centimeter tall Mario van der Ende played active football from 1964 to 1966 at Gona Den Haag and from 1966 to 1976 at ADO Den Haag .
After completing his football career, he completed his training as a football coach between 1976 and 1980 , where he acquired the D, C and B licenses. At the same time he took over the engagement as a trainer at Ado Den Haag in 1976. Other coaching stations were Westerkwartier VUC and Haaglandia (Rijswijk), before a commitment in the youth sector of the Dutch Football Association (KNVB) as a talent seeker, supervisor and trainer followed. In addition, van der Ende was a lecturer for football referees at the Dutch Football Association.
At the same time, van der Ende passed the soccer referee examination in 1977. Until 1985 it was used exclusively in the amateur field. From 1985 he headed games in Dutch professional football, where he made more than 500 appearances.
Mario van der Ende was appointed FIFA referee in 1990. This was the starting signal for an impressive international career, which culminated in three game directors at the 1994 World Cup in the USA and two appearances at the 1998 World Cup in France . In addition, he played at the 1996 European Football Championship in England , 13 games in the UEFA Champions League , 19 games in the UEFA Cup , 3 games in the European Cup Winners' Cup and 2 games in the UEFA Super Cup .
In 1999 van der Ende was diagnosed with cancer, which interrupted his career. Although the disease after about a year was geheil, he had on 26 October 2000, having reached the age limit to the UEFA Cup game OFI Heraklion against Slavia Prague (2: 2) end his international career as a football referee after 135 missions. On November 4, 2001 van der Ende completed his national career with the game Roda Kerkrade against FC Groningen (3-1) in front of 13,500 spectators.
Thanks to his extensive experience, van der Ende has been employed by UEFA and FIFA as a referee observer since 2002.
The Australian Football Association (FFA) also recognized van der Ende's abilities and appointed him on August 12, 2008 as the successor to Rob Baan on an interim basis as technical director for its football referees. As such, he is not only responsible for the sporting interests of the game masters, but also for their personal development, which concerns the appearance in public.
In 2009 he was engaged as a consultant for the Saudi Arabian Football Association (SAFF). He is still active in this position today (December 2011).
In the "referee pension" van der Ende stepped into the public eye again on the occasion of the farewell games of Dennis Bergkamp (on July 22, 2006 in front of 54,000 spectators in London's Emirates Stadium ) and Ger Senden (2008).

Professional career
Mario van der Ende completed his training as a teacher. From 1984 to 1996 he worked at the Tinbergen Reyneveld College in The Hague and Delft as a teacher, study supervisor and dean. Between 1996 and 1999 he was a co-founder and student advisor of the Schoevers Business Classes , where he accompanied top athletes in their development. At the same time he worked for the Dutch Football Association between 1996 and 2007 as head of the professional football and referee departments. Between 1999 and 2007 van der Ende was responsible for the training, monitoring and selection of referees for the Dutch Football Association (KNVB).
In 2007 van der Ende founded his own company Endless Progression , a personal coaching and training center.

Mario van der Ende also appeared as a book author in October 2005. He published the book Gebroken Doelpalen ("Broken Goal Post "), in which he refers to the legendary semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League on April 1, 1998 between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund . In the book van der Ende highlights his career as a national and international football referee.
In March 2009 van der Ende published a second book with the title Hé scheids! (Hey referee!) In this, van der Ende describes what makes a good referee and what drives him. He says that a thorough knowledge of the rules is a prerequisite, but not a guarantee of a comfortable life. On the occasion of the publication of this book, van der Ende gave two interviews to the radio station “Radio 1”, in which he referred to the book and refereeing.
In addition, Mario van der Ende regularly writes articles and columns in Dutch newspapers.
