Konrad Plautz (born October 16, 1964 in Navis ) is an Austrian politician and former football referee .

career

Plautz was born in Navis in 1964 and worked full-time as a quality technician at the Matrei device factory until July 2008 . At the age of 16 he was already in charge of football matches in the "Wild League" in the Tyrolean Wipptal before he took the referee examination in Innsbruck in 1984 . He has been a referee in the Austrian Bundesliga since 1991, and was appointed FIFA Referee in 1996. With over 200 Bundesliga appearances, he is one of the most experienced referees in Austria. In 2009 he ended his career as a referee due to the age limit imposed by FIFA.

Konrad Plautz was one of the figureheads of the Austrian referee system

In the Tyrolean Football Association , he was a member of the Bundesliga team alongside Armin Eder, Thomas Einwaller , Roland Heim, Andreas Heiss and Andreas Staudinger. Plautz is also head of this squad. In his home country Tyrol , Plautz also leads (derby) games in the lower divisions , despite his high qualifications at home and abroad . This certain down-to-earth attitude also gives Plautz great recognition in Tyrol.

At the start of his international career, he took part in the U16 European Championship in his own country in 1996, where he served as a referee for the final between France and Portugal . His first game in the UEFA Champions League he had in 1998 with the game KRC Genk against RCD Mallorca . He has been one of the UEFA Elite Referees since 2000, and since then the enthusiastic amateur actor has regularly directed matches in the European premier league, including the 2006 semi-finals between Arsenal FC and Villarreal FC .

In 2001, after Austria Vienna's 2-0 championship victory over FC Kärnten , Plautz was heavily attacked by the then Carinthian President and Carinthian Governor Jörg Haider ( BZÖ ) in a political speech. The then liberal sports minister Susanne Riess-Passer asked Haider to “check these crooks of referees who are apparently for sale just because Mr. Stronach has to win with his Austria”. Following this speech, Plautz received death threats, Haider brought this statement to the ethics committee of the Austrian Bundesliga. He was sentenced to a fine of 200,000 shillings (~ 14,500 euros). In addition, the Austrian National Council dealt with the cause.

In 2005, Konrad Plautz received general praise and recognition for the game management of the Vienna derby between FK Austria Wien and SK Rapid Wien, when he was able to steer the game, which was extremely emotional due to past games and was repeatedly abandoned by the fans, into order.

On August 31, 2007, Plautz headed the UEFA Super Cup between AC Milan and FC Sevilla , which ended 3-1 for the Milanese.

On December 6, 2009, Plautz ended his active career as a referee with the game SV Ried against FK Austria Wien (0-2) for reasons of age.

European Football Championship 2008

On December 19, 2007 Konrad Plautz achieved his greatest goal. The UEFA Referees Committee nominated him to be the match master of the 2008 European Championship . His assistants Egon Bereuter and Markus Mayr were nominated with him.

politics

As a career changer in politics, Konrad Plautz, at the suggestion of the then Tyrolean governor Herwig van Staa, headed the state list of the Tyrolean People's Party for the state elections on June 8th behind Van Staa. On July 1, 2008, Plautz was sworn in as the new VP sports spokesman in the Tyrolean state parliament. Van Staa described the surprise candidate on April 25, 2008 as an “example of homeland and cosmopolitanism”. In an interview with ORF Tirol about personal preferences in the summer of 2008, however, he caused outrage. He said he wasn't into “Negro music” that much, but more into hits and folk music. He later stated that he meant "only the loud techno music, Tschinn-Bumm music". Plautz also took part in the short film "Show Discrimination the Red Card", which was produced by young people with a migration background as part of EURO 08 for the public viewing areas.

Passion for theater

In addition to refereeing and running, Plautz has another great passion: the theater. The passionate amateur actor has been heading the Navis home theater in the Tyrolean Wipptal for years .

Awards

Plautz was awarded the Bruno in 2004 and 2006 for his outstanding sporting achievements . The Bruno is an important Austrian football prize awarded by the Association of Footballers (VdF), which is named after Bruno Pezzey .

On the part of the Austrian Football Association ( ÖFB ), Plautz was awarded the Austrian referee badge in gold.

In addition, Plautz is an honorary citizen of his home community Navis and holder of the Sports Decoration of Honor of the State of Tyrol.
