In Group D of the European Football Championship 2008 , the reigning European champions disappointed Greece, who this time could not win a single point with their defensive tactics. The Spaniards qualified as group winners ahead of the Russians, who secured a place in the quarter-finals in a direct duel against the Swedes with a 2-0 win.
