Marcus Christian Allbäck (born July 5, 1973 in Gothenburg ) is a former Swedish football player . The striker took part in two world and three European championships with the Swedish national team.
Career
As a child, Allbäck became a member of the Örgryte IS association , a district association from his hometown Gothenburg . His father Stefan was an active player there at the time and is now the club's manager. Allbäck was a professional at Lyngby FC and AS Bari before returning to his home club and becoming a top performer there. In 2000 he was appointed to the Swedish national team for the first time. At the beginning of the 2001/2002 season he moved to the Dutch club SC Heerenveen .
His breakthrough in the national team came in 2001 when he scored two goals against Moldova in Chișinău , thereby securing three important points in the World Cup qualification for Sweden. In the following game against Slovakia he scored twice again - he became a regular player. At the 2002 World Cup , he and Henrik Larsson formed the attack of the Swedish team. After only one season with Heerenveen, he moved to Aston Villa , but got less and less playing time and therefore lost his regular place in the national team to Zlatan Ibrahimović . In 2004 he moved to Hansa Rostock , but after relegation from the Bundesliga, he left the club after only one season and moved on to FC Copenhagen .
In the summer of 2008 Allbäck announced that he would return to his home club Örgryte IS after the European Championship in Sweden . With five goals in twelve appearances in the second division season in 2008, he helped the club to the second division championship and thus to return to the Allsvenskan. Shortly after the start of the first division season in 2009 , he suffered a serious knee injury. In total, he brought it to 18 games by the end of the season, so that he could not help his club in the relegation battle with three goals and was relegated with him from the first division.
At the beginning of November 2009 Allbäck ended his active playing career to join the coaching staff of the newly hired Swedish national coach Erik Hamrén as "Players Manager" .
Allbäck is married to his wife Suzanne and has two children.

Sporty criticism
The sports magazine Kicker judged Allbäck's qualities as follows in its special issue "EM 2008":
A team-friendly striker with a large radius of action and an eye for the man next to him. Also works a lot backwards.
