Billy Ohlsson (born January 13, 1954 ) is a former Swedish football player . The striker was the Allsvenskan top scorer twice during his career and played six times for the Swedish national team between 1978 and 1980 .

Career

Ohlsson began playing football at Bagarmossens IS before joining the youth team at Hammarby IF at the age of nine . For his new club he played both football and ice hockey as a youth and reached the final of the Swedish youth championship with the youth ice hockey team.

Ohlsson decided to pursue a football career. In the fall of 1972, the then coach Janne Holmberg brought him into the men's team. On September 21 of the year he made his debut in the game against Stockholm local rivals Djurgårdens IF and scored the consolation goal for Bajen in the 8-1 defeat . This was his only league appearance during the 1972 season , only in the following year he established himself in the squad and came primarily as a substitute to 19 appearances. In the 1974 season he won a regular place in the storm and scored five goals in 23 games.

Ohlsson improved his scoring every year: if he scored seven goals in each of the 1975 and 1976 seasons, he was the club's top scorer for the first time with eight goals in the 1977 season . He also played himself into the hearts of the fans when he shot out a 3-0 lead with a hat trick in a local derby against Djurgårdens IF in the national cup and, after the rival had developed a 4-3 lead, overtime with the equalizer forced, in which the team went through a goal by Börje Forsberg a round. With the team around Thom Åhlund , Mats Werner and Kenneth Ohlsson , he reached the final of the competition, which ended against Östers IF with a 0-1 defeat by a goal from Anders Linderoth . In the 1978 season he led the scorers list for a long time; behind Djurgården's striker Tommy Berggren , he placed second in the list at the end of the season. He then moved into the focus of national coach Georg Ericson and made his debut in the last international match of the year on October 4, 1978 in the 1: 3 defeat against Czechoslovakia as part of the qualification for the 1980 European Championship as a substitute in the national jersey.

Ohlsson had attracted attention outside of Sweden because of his goal threat. In the winter of 1979 he moved to the German club Arminia Bielefeld , which had been promoted to the Bundesliga the previous year . Under coach Otto Rehhagel , he made nine appearances in the second half of the 1978/79 season alongside Frank Pagelsdorf , Volker Graul and Norbert Eilenfeldt and scored his only Bundesliga goal in the 2: 3 away defeat at 1. FC Kaiserslautern as he succeeded in the 81st minute of the game to the interim 1-1 equalizer.

After Ohlsson's return to Sweden to his old club Hammarby IF in the 1980 season , he returned to the old goal danger and was crowned Allsvenskan top scorer with 19 goals this season. After he was used irregularly in the following years due to injury, he succeeded in repeating his success in the 1984 season . With 14 goals this season, he was the top scorer ahead of Mats Magnusson and Peter Truedsson . Until 1986 he ran for the club in the Allsvenskan, until he let his career end after 93 first division in Sweden.

In 1989, Ohlsson took over as player-coach at the then fifth-class Syrianska FC , with whom he rose to the fourth division in 1990. He later worked as an expert and commentator at TV4 .
