Alexander Claes Robin Gerndt (born July 14, 1986 in Visby ) is a Swedish football player . The striker picked up in the 2010 season of Allsvenskan the top scorer title . In the same year he won the Swedish National Cup with Helsingborgs IF and made his debut in the Swedish national team .

Career

Career start and first professional experience

Gerndt began playing football at Visby IF Gute in 1989 . There he went through the individual youth teams and moved up to the squad of the first team in 2004. In the following years he established himself with the third division, with whom he qualified for the new Division 1 at the end of the 2005 season. In the third division he scored twelve goals this season in the 2006 season, so that he had made a name for himself in a higher class and Örebro SK and AIK vied for his services after trial training after the end of the season in October of that year. Ultimately, he decided on the club from Solna, with which he signed a three-year contract in early November.

After Gerndt had been used several times in preparation and had been successful as a scorer in a game against IK Sirius , he ran under coach Rikard Norling on the fourth match day of the 2007 season for the first time in the Allsvenskan. In the 4-0 defeat by Malmö FF , he stood at the side of Miran Burgić , Kenny Pavey , Dulee Johnson and Wilton Figueiredo in the starting line-up before Bernt Hulsker replaced him from the 74th minute of the game. As a result, he was irregular in the squad. On August 2 of that year he scored his first competitive goal in the European Cup match against Glentoran FC in the first qualifying round of the 2007/08 UEFA Cup when he scored a 3-0 lead in the 88th minute of a 4-0 win . By the end of the season he had been used in five league games in which he had failed to score. At times he was also in the squad of cooperation partner Väsby United , for whom he played a game.

Shortly before the end of 2007, AIK agreed a collaboration with IK Sirius, under which Gerndt was loaned to the second division team. At his new club he became a regular goalscorer and scored six goals in 14 Superettan games by the summer of 2008 . With that he had recommended himself to a higher class again.

Breakthrough in the Allsvenskan and title wins

At the end of July 2008, the first division club Gefle IF signed Gerndt as the successor to Johan Oremo , who had switched to Djurgårdens IF , and gave him a three-and-a-half year contract. In September, however, he was injured in training when he fell unhappy on his back after a duel with Peter Bergqvist . So slowed down, he played only seven league games in his first half series, in which he was only three times in the starting line-up. Also in the following season he was a regular substitute at the beginning, but in the second half of the season he fought for a regular place alongside Jonas Lantto , Jonatan Berg , Daniel Theorin and Andreas Dahlén . On October 25, 2009 he scored his first first division goal in a 2-1 home win against Trelleborgs FF , which was followed by two more by the end of the season.

Gerndt saved his goal danger in the following season and ensured that the club stayed in the middle of the table until the summer. With eight goals this season until the summer break, he once again aroused the desires of other clubs. He decided against moving abroad, after the Dutch club SC Heerenveen in particular had shown interest, and signed a contract with Helsingborgs IF . At his new club, too, he stood up to the competition for Rasmus Jönsson and Erik Sundin and established himself in the attack line of the championship candidate. For a long time tied with Malmö FF in the race for the title, the team missed the Lennart Johansson Cup two points behind their competitors . As a regular goalscorer, however, shortly before the end of the season on the penultimate day of the season, his 20th goal of the season pushed Denni Avdić from the top of the goalscorer list, which he defended until the end of the season - both of which remained without a goal on the last day of the season. After the end of the season he was also with the team around Joel Ekstrand , Pär Hansson , Erik Edman and Hannu Patronen in the cup final, which was won after a goal by Jönsson against Hammarby IF with a 1-0 win. On the Fotbollsgalan at the end of the season he was named Player of the Year in the Allsvenskan a day later, but the Malmö audience booed him at the award ceremony.

Shortly beforehand, national coach Erik Hamrén Gerndt had appointed him to the Swedish national team for the first time for a friendly against the German national team. On November 17, he made his debut in the 0-0 draw between the two teams as a substitute for Kim Källström in the 88th minute of the game in the national jersey. In the first international match of the following year, he scored his first international goal when he netted alongside team captain Anders Svensson in the 2-1 win over Botswana , and then continued to be part of the national team. Shortly before the beginning of the following season he won the next trophy with his club when goals from Marcus Nilsson and Erik Sundin succeeded in winning the Supercup title when Wilton Figueiredo conceded . After an initial downturn in goals, he was again dangerous for goals in the Allsvenskan and was one of the few players active in his home country in the national team.

Change abroad

As the top scorer and national player, Gerndt had drawn attention outside the country's borders. Already after the end of the 2010 season rumors of change had surfaced, which continued in 2011 thanks to his continued accuracy. In July 2011, in the first half of the allsvenskan season 2011 , he had scored seven goals and thus placed himself again among the top five goalscorers to date, he left Sweden and moved to the Dutch club FC Utrecht . He signed a four-year contract with his new employer, who had signed Johan Mårtensson and Gerndt's former team-mate Marcus Nilsson shortly before. Together with Édouard Duplan , Frank Demouge and Jacob Mulenga , he led the club's internal goalscorer list with seven goals of the season at the end of the season, the club placed eleventh in the middle of the table. Also in the following season he was one of the club's most accurate attackers.

At the end of the winter transfer period , Gerndt moved to the Swiss club BSC Young Boys in Bern at the end of January 2013 . In his first half series he was unable to build on the scoring threat of previous stations, but after an increasing form in autumn 2013 he returned to the national team for the last group game in the qualification for the World Cup after Johan Elmander's injury-related loss 2014 back against Germany. Ultimately, he remained in the 3: 5 defeat without use.

Private

On December 13, 2011, Gerndt was found guilty of assaulting his ex-wife in a court in Helsingborg . He was sentenced to a fine of around 8,800 euros for assault. He had to pay his ex-wife the equivalent of around 7,000 euros in compensation for pain and suffering. After the guilty verdict, Gerndt was left on probation. Gerndt appealed against the judgment. The Svenska Fotbollförbundet announced after the judgment of December 13, 2011 that Gerndt would temporarily no longer be used in the national team.
