Nils Markus Rosenberg (born September 27, 1982 in Malmö ) is a Swedish football player . He is mainly used in the storm and was most recently under contract with the Swedish first division team Malmö FF .
Career
In the club
Malmö FF / Halmstads BK
Markus Rosenberg played in the youth team of Malmö FF , the same youth team as Zlatan Ibrahimović , but failed to establish himself in the professional team of Malmö FF. Therefore, he was awarded in calendar year 2004 to the league rivals Halmstads BK . He was successful there and scored 14 goals in 26 games. He almost helped Halmstads BK to the Swedish championship. In the last game of the season against IFK Göteborg he supported Dusan Djuric in the 1-0, but was replaced at halftime due to injury. In the second half Gothenburg scored 1-1, almost at the same time Malmö FF beat IF Elfsborg 1-0 and became Swedish champions with only one point ahead of Halmstads BK. This ended his loan and in the 2005 calendar year he played again for half a year at Malmö FF.
Ajax Amsterdam
For the 2005/06 season he moved from Malmö FF to the Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam . Here the striker found his way in the 4-3-3 system, in which he mostly stormed together with Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Mauro Rosales , and mostly occupied the left wing. Rosenberg completed 31 league games in his first season and scored twelve goals. Under the new coach Henk ten Cate , he found himself in the first half of the 2006/07 season, in which he remained in nine missions without scoring, mostly on the reserve bench.
SV Werder Bremen / Racing Santander
During the 2006/07 winter break, Rosenberg moved to Werder Bremen . He scored his first Bundesliga goal on March 11, 2007 in a 1-1 draw at Bayern Munich with the back of his head. On May 6, 2007, he scored three times in a 4-1 win against Hertha BSC and thus scored his first, unclean hat-trick for Werder Bremen. In total, Rosenberg scored eight goals in 14 appearances in his first Bundesliga season, five of which he scored as a substitute. This made him the most effective joker in the league. Because of his good performances, he soon became a crowd favorite with the fans and was nicknamed "Rosi" by them. In the election for Footballer of the Month in May 2007, he came second. With 14 goals in league games he was the most accurate Werder professional in the 2007/08 season and with a 1-0 win in the second half of the season against Hertha BSC he was also the “fastest goalscorer” of this season.
In the 2009/10 season , the striker had to help out as a full-back due to personnel concerns in the defense. On matchday 27 of the same season he was relegated to the stands after a poor performance at the home game against VfL Bochum .
On August 24, 2010, however, he was surprisingly substituted in for the injured Sandro Wagner in the second leg of the play-off round of the 2010/11 Champions League against Sampdoria Genua and scored a goal in stoppage time that Werder Bremen initially secured and through Another goal from Claudio Pizarro enabled the club to enter the group stage of the Champions League.
On August 31, 2010, Markus Rosenberg extended his contract with Werder Bremen for one year, but was loaned to Racing Santander for the 2010/11 season. There he played 33 games and was the best league shooter of his team with nine goals. Due to the performances shown, he was able to return to the Bundesliga team from Werder Bremen in the next season. Rosenberg scored his first competitive goal after his return on July 30, 2011 in the first round of the 2011/12 DFB Cup, making it 1-0. On the first day of the Bundesliga he played through and scored both goals in a 2-0 win against 1. FC Kaiserslautern . On October 29, 2011 (11th matchday) he played his 100th Bundesliga game for Werder Bremen against 1. FSV Mainz 05 .
The contract with Werder Bremen, which expired on June 30, 2012, was no longer extended.
West Bromwich Albion
In the summer break of 2012 Rosenberg moved to the Premier League on a free transfer to West Bromwich Albion . He signed a three-year contract until June 30, 2015 and got the shirt number eight. Here, however, he had to fight well-known competition such as Shane Long , Scott Sinclair or Romelu Lukaku , which is why the Swede never got beyond the role of a supplementary player.
Return to Malmo
On February 1, 2014 Rosenberg returned to his youth club Malmö FF . There he found his old strength, received regular assignments and became captain of the team. On December 12, 2019, he played his last game for Malmö against FC Copenhagen in the UEFA Europa League.
National team
Rosenberg took part with the Swedish national team , in the 2006 World Cup (without commitment), the 2008 European Championship and the 2012 European Championship . On the way to the EM 2008 he was one of the actors involved in a scandalous game. On June 2, 2007 he was fouled in the European Championship qualifier against Denmark shortly before the end of the game by Christian Poulsen . After Herbert Fandel Poulsen showed the red card and awarded the Swedes a penalty kick, this was attacked by a Danish supporter. This led to the game being abandoned. In retrospect, the UEFA rated the game 3-0 for the Swedes.
Style of play
Rosenberg has both feet, has a strong header and, because of his running strength, is particularly suitable for a game designed for counterattacks. The exploitation of opportunities and the calm at the conclusion are considered Rosenberg's weaknesses.
Private
Markus Rosenberg has had a daughter with his girlfriend since April 14, 2010.
