Eskelinen comes from the youth of Västra Frölunda IF . In 1987 he moved up to the club's professional squad and made his debut in the Allsvenskan. In his third year in the professional squad he was able to fight for a regular place as a striker and was used in all 22 games of the season. Despite his seven goals this season, the club had to relegate after three wins this season with ten plus points as bottom of the table.

Eskelinen moved to IFK Göteborg after relegation within Allsvenskan . In the two-time UEFA Cup winners , he established himself by storm and scored ten goals this season in his first season, the new club to the championship title and top scorer in the league. In the following year he got the Von Rosens Cup with the club as national champion and won the Svenska Cup .

In 1993 Eskelinen tried his hand at abroad, but his engagement with SK Brann in Norway was not crowned with success. Therefore, the Swedish second division club Djurgårdens IF , who had hired a new coach with Anders Grönhagen , lured him back to Sweden together with his teammate Thor André Olsen to manage the return to the Allsvenskan. As a regular in the forward and midfield of the Stockholm club, he contributed to the promotion and was also one of the club's regulars in terms of top-class. After two years in the Swedish House of Lords, DIF had to relegate again, Eskelinen initially remained loyal to the club and played another year in the second division. On the side of the young Daniel Nannskog in attack only the second place was achieved and thus the direct re-promotion was missed.

Eskelinen therefore moved to Hammarby IF in 1998 , who had been promoted to Allsvenskan. In the following three years he ran for his new club mainly in midfield. From 2001 he let his career end for two seasons with the second division club FC Café Opera .

After the end of his career, Eskelinen worked as a sales manager at Kaffeknappen and trained in the amateur field.
