Atsuto Suzuki
Atsuto Suzuki (Japanese: 鈴木 厚 人; * 1946 in Japan ) is a Japanese physicist .
Suzuki studied at Niigata University and then received his PhD from Tōhoku University's Faculty of Science . Since 1993 he has been a professor at Tōhoku University. Suzuki conducted research on the Japanese Super Kamiokande (neutrino detector) experiment and was appointed director of the Research Center for Neutrino Science in 1998. He also organized the KamLAND experiments to observe neutrinos . From 2006 to 2015 he was General Director of the KEK Research Center .
In 2005 he received the medal on the Violet Ribbon , in 2006 the Bruno Pontecorvo Prize and in 2016 the Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics . Since December 2011 he has been an external member of the Russian Academy of Sciences .
