The Allsvenskan 2014 was the 90th season of the highest Swedish football league . It began on March 30th with the first matchday, the last matchday took place on November 1st, 2014. Due to the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil - for which the Swedish national team did not qualify - there was a summer break between June 2 and July 5, 2014. The playing time was overshadowed by the death of a supporter on the first day of the game.

16 teams will play for the Lennart Johansson Cup , which is awarded as a trophy for the Swedish championship title, as well as for a place in the European Cup and against relegation to the second-rate Superettan , in a two-legged game over 30 match days .

The league leaders after the last match day will be recognized as the Swedish national champions and will take part in qualifying for the 2015/16 UEFA Champions League . The two teams placed behind them will advance to qualifying for the 2015/16 UEFA Europa League alongside the winner of the national cup, which will be determined by the summer . The two bottom of the table will be relegated directly to the Superettan, the third from bottom will play in a relegation round consisting of a two-legged friend against the third-placed team in the second division.

Season course

Before the start of the season and the background

Since the 2008 season , 16 teams have been playing in the Allsvenskan for the Swedish championship title in the Allsvenskan. As the defending champion and thus a participant in the qualification for the UEFA Champions League , Malmö FF is going into the 79th first division season in the club's history, in addition to the club from Skåne, runners-up AIK , third-placed IFK Göteborg as winners of the Swedish national cup and thus fourth-placed Kalmar FF last year the entry as a qualifying round participant for the UEFA Europa League in the qualifying rounds for the European Cup . At the end of the previous season, there were some coach changes in the first division between the two seasons:

The club replaced him with Hans Eklund , who had surprisingly made promotion to the Allsvenskan with the Falkenbergs FF, who was traded as a relegation candidate.
  • At the same time, Per-Mathias Høgmo resigned , who had already announced his departure from Djurgårdens IF at the end of the season to take over the Norwegian national team during the course of the season, but not until the end of September .   • Newcomer Falkenbergs FF signed Henrik Larsson as the new trainer in early December .

  • Also at the end of November, Stockholm club IF Brommapojkarna had to accept the departure of its coach when Roberth Björknesjö announced his departure. A few days before the first matchday, the official season kick-off took place with the annual meeting of officials, coaches and selected players, which took place on March 25th in the Swedbank Stadium in Malmö . Death of a supporter on the first match day and abandonment of the game

On the first day of play met u. a. Helsingborgs IF and Djurgårdens IF on each other, the game was scheduled for March 30th. Before the game started, there was an incident in downtown Helsingborg in which a supporter of the Stockholm club was attacked. He suffered severe head injuries to which he later succumbed in hospital. On April 14th, the association decided not to continue the game that had been canceled and to score it with a 1-1 draw.

The day after the game, the police, who were investigating manslaughter, arrested a suspect briefly, but released him after the interrogation. While investigators have assumed a lone perpetrator, testimonies with three perpetrators are quoted in the press. On the night of March 31st to April 1st, the perpetrator surrendered to the police. In June he was sentenced to eight months in prison.

Further coach changes

In June 2013, Alexander Axén replaced the previous head coach Per-Ola Ljung, who had resigned from his post for personal reasons, at his youth club, the first division club Örebro SK . He then took over the coaching position at Gothenburg's second division club GAIS .

On July 19, Mjällby AIF dismissed the previous head coach Lars Jacobsson , who was temporarily replaced by Jonas Andersson as interim coach while lying on the relegation site . Just two days later, the club signed Anders Linderoth as his successor, Jonas Andersson and Patrik Rosengren were hired as his coaching assistants .

Season course

On the first day of the match, last year's title holder Malmö FF took over the championship lead with a 3-0 home win over promoted Falkenbergs FF after goals from Magnus Eriksson and the two-time successful Simon Thern , which the club maintained with four consecutive wins. In addition to promoted Falkenbergs FF, Helsingborgs IF, Mjällby AIF, Gefle IF, IF Brommapojkarna and Halmstads BK were in the bottom third of the table at the start of the season. While Helsingborgs IF had reached the middle of the table by the end of the first third of the season, Mjällby AIF and the Stockholm club IF Brommapojkarna in particular settled in the relegation zone - both teams only achieved their first win of the season on the seventh match day. When Mjällby AIF was successful in a direct duel on matchday 11 with a goal from Marcus Ekenberg , the teams changed positions and IF Brommapojkarna took last place. After the Stockholmers subsequently remained without a win, relegation to the Superettan was already clear on matchday 25. At the same time, Mjällby AIF left the relegation places for a while, where Halmstads BK had gone.

Meanwhile, Örebro SK slipped into the relegation battle in the summer and temporarily occupied the relegation place in the middle of the season, but after a successful streak the club moved back to the top half of the table and had theoretical chances of making it into UEFA Europe shortly before the end of the season League.
