Erdal Rakip (born February 13, 1996 in Malmö ) is a Swedish football player . The midfielder made his debut in Swedish professional football in 2013, where he won several championship titles with Malmö FF .

Career

Rakip, whose roots are in Albania , Macedonia and Turkey , comes from the youth of Malmö FF . While he went through the individual youth teams there, he drew the attention of those responsible at Svenska Fotbollförbundet . In May 2013 he took part with the Swedish U-17 selection team in the U-17 European Championship 2013 , in which the team reached the semi-finals and thus qualified for the U-17 World Championship 2013 . A few days after completing the tournament, he made his debut in the 3-1 away win at Stockholm club IF Brommapojkarna in the Allsvenskan . Even though it was mainly in the junior division in the further course of the year, the autumn was nevertheless successful. At the junior world championship he again reached the semi-finals, ultimately lost to eventual world champions Nigeria , alongside Gustav Engvall , Carlos Strandberg and Elias Andersson, and after a clear 4-1 win over Argentina, he came third.

Under coach Åge Hareide , Rakip joined the professional squad of Malmö FF before the start of the 2014 season and was subsequently used more frequently in the championship. He then signed a professional contract with the club in the summer of 2014, which was valid until the end of 2017. Ultimately, he contributed to winning the championship title at the end of the 2014 season in 15 championship games . In the course of the following season he worked out a regular place and was therefore also used in the group stage of the 2015/16 UEFA Champions League , for which the team had qualified after successes at FC Red Bull Salzburg and Celtic Glasgow , among others . There, however, the team failed as bottom of the group level on points with Shakhtar Donetsk despite a 1-0 home win due to the worse record in the direct duel after the 0-4 defeat in the second leg. In the 2016 season he was involved in winning the championship again with 27 games this season, in the following season he also appeared as a regular goalscorer. With eight goals this season he was the second-best club-internal goalscorer behind Jo Inge Berget and thus contributed to defending his title.

After his contract expired at the end of 2017, Benfica Lisbon secured the services of the midfielder and immediately loaned him to Crystal Palace in the Premier League in London until the end of the season . But even here he did not play a game for the first team during this time.

After his return, he played the first half of the 2018/19 season for the Benfica reserve team and was then transferred to his former club Malmö FF during the winter break . In his contract it was stated that Benfica would collect 50% of the transfer fee if the player was sold again.
