Søren Krukow Rieks (born April 7, 1987 in Jerne ) is a Danish football player . He is currently under contract in Sweden with Malmö FF .

Club career

Rieks began his career in the youth of Esbjerg fB , where he acted rather inconspicuously for a long time. He graduated from all of the club's youth teams and also played in the club's indoor soccer team, with which he became Danish indoor champion in 2007.

In the 2005/06 season, the then completely unknown player surprisingly made his professional debut in the SAS league . Only in the following season did he come to other short assignments, in which he partially showed his great talent. In total, he played eleven season games, but most of them as a substitute.

In 2007, the player's performance explosion followed, which caused quite a stir. In the preparation for the season he had fought for a regular place as a right midfielder in the diamond of the Jutlanders and caused a sensation with his scoring threat. At the end of the season, with seven goals this season, he was tied with Martin Vingaard and Sweden's Njogu Demba-Nyrén and secured seventh place in the table. Over the course of the game he had developed into an indispensable top performer in the club and also celebrated his international debut in the Danish U-21 national team . Previously, he had not been considered for any youth national team in his country. As the culmination of the season, he moved with the club in the Danish Cup final , in which, however, they lost 3-2 to Brøndby IF . Rieks was the best player on his team and scored both goals.

This was followed by the departures of important top performers such as Demba-Nyrén and defensive routinier Igors Stepanovs , which the club could not compensate. The Swede Alexander Östlund , signed for Stepanovs, was injured for almost the entire season, while Gunnar Heidar Thorvaldsson , who was brought in from Hannover, fell far short of expectations. In addition, the club also sold Rieks' congenial midfield partner, Niki Zimling , so that almost all of the club's hopes were focused on him. Despite the great expectations, Rieks confirmed his strong performance and became a guarantor for the relegation of his team. With rank nine they managed to stay in the league with ease.

With the purchases of Dutchman Tim Janssen and the also highly talented Peter Nymann for the 2009/10 season, Esbjerg immediately had a powerful squad again, which had been fighting for the title for the entire first half of the season and were in third place with one point behind Odense BK overwintered.

At the end of July 2012, Rieks moved to the Dutch first division club NEC Nijmegen , where he signed a three-year contract until the end of June 2015.

In August 2014 he moved to Sweden to IFK Göteborg . He won the Swedish Football Cup with the team in the 2014/15 season .

On January 12, 2018, league rival Malmö FF announced Rieks' commitment.

National team

Rieks made his debut on January 19, 2007 in the unofficial international match against Malaysia in the Danish U-21 selection . This was followed by seven official and two more unofficial internationals with a total of one goal.

On November 14, 2009 he made his debut under coach Morton Olsen in the friendly against South Korea for Denmark . Four days later, in his second international match against the USA, he scored a goal to make it 2-1 (final score 3-1)
