Jo Inge Berget (born September 11, 1990 in Oslo ) is a Norwegian football player .

He was next to Marcus Pedersen as the greatest offensive talent in his country.

Club career

Berget began his career in the youth department of the multisport club Gran IL from the province of Oppland , before moving to the youth of Lyn Oslo as the greatest regional talent .

After just under a year as a youth player, he was accepted into the club's professional squad and made his debut on September 11, 2007, shortly before his seventeenth birthday, in the game against Tromsø IL in the Tippeligaen . This was followed by two more games in 2007 and as many in the 2008 season before he was obliged under the season in a brace with teammate Ighalo Odion from the Italian top club Udinese Calcio .

After more than six months in the Primavera of Udinese, he was loaned back to Lyn for the 2009 season for match practice, where he was able to celebrate his breakthrough in professional football. In the club, due to major financial difficulties, the top performers, including Ståle Stensaas , Espen Hoff , Magnus Powell and Eddie Gustafsson , were sold off. As a result, Lyn was not competitive with a thrown together squad of cheap players and talents who had previously failed at other clubs and was relegated to the Adeccoligaen as bottom of the table after eight years of membership in the first division. Berget turned out to be one of the few winners of the season, was a regular at the age of 18 and confirmed his reputation as a great offensive talent.

As a result, Lyn tried to sign the player for the upcoming second division season, which Udinese categorically excluded due to the keen interest of several Norwegian first division clubs. For the 2010 season he was then awarded to the traditional club Strømsgodset IF .

In “Godset” he then formed a congenial offensive duo with Marcus Pedersen , who was almost the same age and who was also highly traded , which determined the beginning of the season. Together they were responsible for nine goals and six assists in the first ten rounds of the season and kept the club, previously traded as a relegation candidate, in the top field of the league.

After the strong initial phase, he had to take a break of four months due to injury in the middle of the season and also lost his regular strike partner with the sale of Pedersen to Vitesse Arnheim . Godset had in the meantime said goodbye to the title fight and occupied a secure place in the front midfield of the league. On November 14th, 2010 he celebrated his first professional title with a 2-0 win over Follo Fotball in the Norwegian Cup final . Due to his good development, Udinese then extended the loan contract with Strømsgodset for another year. Molde FK and Rosenborg Trondheim had previously shown interest in signing.

For the 2014/15 season he was awarded to Celtic Glasgow until January . For the Bhoys , Berget completed a total of four league games in the six months. After the loan ended, Cardiff City terminated the contract with him prematurely. With Malmö FF from Sweden, Berget found a new ambitious club. Here he was able to celebrate the championship title in 2016 and 2017.

To the day two years later he moved free transfer on January 19, 2018 New York City FC in Major League Soccer .

National team

Berget has played for the Norwegian U-16, U-17 , U-18 and U-19 selection. In 2009, at the age of 18, he was brought forward to the U-21 national team, of which he has been a member until now and is currently forming a storm duo with his former offensive partner at Strømsgodset, Marcus Pedersen.
