Johan Helge Dahlin (born September 8, 1986 in Trollhättan ) is a Swedish football player . The goalkeeper , who has been under contract in Sweden, Norway and Turkey in his career so far, made his debut for the Swedish national team in 2009 .

Career

Career start in Sweden and Norway

Dahlin played in his youth for Trollhättans FK and FC Trollhättan , where the goalkeeper was promoted to the men's squad as a junior player. In 2004 the fifth division Åsebro IF signed him as a regular goalkeeper.

Just a year later, Dahlin left the fifth division and moved to Norway to the first division club Lyn Oslo . Initially, he was only supposed to play in the youth team, but was already on the bench in the Tippeligaen in the summer . Until his first appearance in the league he had to wait until April 9, 2006, but was able to temporarily push his compatriot Eddie Gustafsson out of the gate. In the same year Tommy Söderberg nominated him for the first time for the Swedish U-21 selection , in which he was able to establish himself as a regular goalkeeper. In the 2007 season he was again only a substitute at his club, so he was loaned to the Swedish first division side Trelleborgs FF for the first half of the 2008 season to collect match practice in the Allsvenskan . There he replaces the regular goalkeeper Fredrik Persson , who sustained a serious knee injury.

After 13 league games Dahlin returned to Norway, where he was initially only a substitute behind Gustafsson and only replaced him on the last day of the game. Nevertheless, national coach Lars Lagerbäck nominated the goalkeeper for an international tour of the senior national team to North America. In the 3-2 defeat against the US national team , he made his international debut, but had to accept three goals from Sacha Klještan .

After Gustafsson's departure before the 2009 season , he took over the regular place between the posts and helped the club to lead the table during the summer break. At the end of May, the selection coach Söderberg and Jörgen Lennartsson nominated him for the U-21 European Championship finals in their own country in the summer, where he was one of five players on the Swedish team who worked abroad, alongside Marcus Berg , Mikael Lustig , Martin Olsson and Ola Toivonen . With the team he reached the semi-finals of the tournament, but failed there against the English junior selection on penalties .

Return to Sweden and two championship titles with Malmö FF

After the tournament ended, Dahlin returned to Sweden and went to Malmö FF . There he replaced Jonas Sandqvist , who left the club in early July. At his new club he established himself as a regular player and won the championship title in Sweden in the 2010 season with the team around Guillermo Molins , Ulrich Vinzents and Ivo Pekalski . In the following season, overshadowed by injuries, he was regularly replaced by nominal substitute goalkeeper Dušan Melichárek , who also guarded the goal for him in the qualifying rounds for the 2011/12 UEFA Champions League . After missing the group stage, he was regularly between the posts in the 2011/12 UEFA Europa League , but the club was eliminated early. With his performances until the end of the season, he had played his way back into the national team and in December was appointed by national coach Erik Hamrén alongside a number of newcomers - including his Malmö teammates Pekalski and Pontus Jansson - for a January tour to Qatar.

In the following years, Dahlin initially remained the undisputed core of his club and was again part of the Swedish national team in early 2013. In April 2013 he was injured in an away game at Åtvidabergs FF and was replaced by Robin Olsen . After his recovery he had to take a seat on the bench for a while, but on matchday 13 he finally regained the place between the posts and contributed to winning the championship again in 22 games this season alongside Magnus Eriksson , Jiloan Hamad , Emil Forsberg and Simon Thern .

Another move abroad and championship title in Denmark

On December 23, Dahlin announced his departure from Malmö FF and moved to the Turkish club Gençlerbirliği Ankara at the turn of the year , where he signed a contract valid until summer 2017. He then canceled a renewed appointment to the national team for the January 2014 tour. After only one year, he returned to Northern Europe in January 2015 and joined the Danish club FC Midtjylland , where he was supposed to duel with Jakob Haugaard for the regular place between the posts. By the end of the season, he contributed to winning the championship in ten league games in the Superliga . After the departure of the competitor to Stoke City , he was at the beginning of the following season between the posts before he was ousted after an injury by the newly signed Mikkel Andersen .

In the summer of 2017, Dahlin returned to Malmö. He signed a contract with a term until 2020.
