Robin Olsen (born January 8, 1990 in Malmö ) is a Danish - Swedish football player . The goalkeeper is under contract with AS Roma in the Italian Serie A. In 2013 and 2014 he won the Swedish championship title with Malmö FF and the Danish championship title in 2016 with FC Copenhagen . In 2015 he made his debut in the Swedish national team , with which he participated in the 2016 European Championships and the 2018 World Cup .

Career

Club career

Olsen was born in Malmö to Danish parents and joined the Malmö FF youth team at the age of seven , where he was soon used as a goalkeeper. He later moved to BK Olympic within the city . However, many players in the team playing as FC Malmö were poached by other clubs. Ultimately, Olsen Bunkeflo IF joined. At the club he was a substitute goalkeeper as a 16-year-old and sat on the bench at several games in the Superettan , but remained without playing time. Even after the merger with Limhamns IF to IF Limhamn Bunkeflo in early 2008, he remained in this role. Only after relegation to the third division Division 1 he became the first goalkeeper. However, a serious knee injury slowed him down; In 2010, the club awarded him to the amateur club Bunkeflo FF in the seventh division 5. There he was regularly used and moved to IFK Klagshamn before the fourth division season in 2011 , where he only stayed one season.

In 2012, Olsen joined his youth club Malmö FF. Here he was initially the third substitute goalkeeper behind Johan Dahlin and Viktor Noring , who left the club in the summer and was replaced by Zlatan Azinović . During an injury-related break from Dahlin in autumn, coach Rikard Norling relied on Olsen, who made his debut on October 1, 2012 in the 2-0 away win at Syrianska FC in the Allsvenskan . In the 2013 season , he represented the competitor who was injured again for a longer period and contributed to winning the championship title in ten league games. After Dahlin's move to Gençlerbirliği Ankara at the turn of the year, he moved up as a regular goalkeeper under the new coach Åge Hareide . In the summer he qualified with the team around Markus Rosenberg , Magnus Eriksson , Emil Forsberg , Isaac Kiese Thelin and Markus Halsti for the first time in the club's history for the group stage of the UEFA Champions League ; besides Rosenberg and Forsberg, he was the only one to have played all six qualifying games over the entire playing time. At the end of the season he won the Swedish championship with the team.

In the summer of 2015, Olsen moved to the Greek first division club PAOK Saloniki . However, his performances in the Super League and the UEFA Europa League did not meet the expectations of the club officials, so he was awarded to the Danish club FC Copenhagen from the end of January 2016 .

At FC Copenhagen he ousted the goalkeeper Stephan Andersen and played 14 games by the end of the season. After he had contributed to winning the championship title in the super league , he reached the final in the national cup with the team . With a 2-1 win over Aarhus GF , he won the double . At the end of May 2016, FC Copenhagen signed him. His status as a regular goalkeeper was reinforced by his performance in the 2016/17 season , when he conceded just ten goals in 24 appearances in the regular season. In the championship round, he defended the team that played out the lead of twelve points over Brøndby IF . The double was defended with a 3-1 final win against the opponent in the cup final, but Andersen was between the posts. In the 2017/18 season , Olsen was unable to continue the dominant position of previous years with FC Copenhagen; Ultimately, the club finished fourth and only qualified for the 2018/19 UEFA Europa League via the play-off games . Olsen was out from the beginning of March due to an injury until the end of the season.

In July 2018 he moved to Italy for AS Roma and signed a five-year contract. In August 2019, the goalkeeper was loaned out to Cagliari Calcio for a season .

National team

Olsen had not played for any U national team. As a citizen of both countries was eligible to play for the Swedish or Danish associations. In December 2014, the Swedish national coach Erik Hamrén nominated him as one of nine newcomers for the Swedish national team on the occasion of a trip to the Middle East in January 2015. Olsen made his debut on January 15, 2015 in the game against Ivory Coast in Abu Dhabi .

In May 2016 Hamrén nominated him alongside Patrik Carlgren as a substitute goalkeeper behind Andreas Isaksson for the European Championship finals in France; at the tournament he was not used. After the European Championship, Olsen replaced the resigned Isaksson as the goalkeeper of the Swedish national team and was used in all ten games in qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia ; As runners-up in the group behind European vice-champions France , Sweden qualified for the relegation, in which the Scandinavians prevailed against Italy . At the 2018 World Cup finals , he was used in all Swedish games. He reached the quarter-finals with the team and was eliminated from England .
