Valter Birsa (born August 7, 1986 in Šempeter pri Gorici , Nova Gorica ) is a Slovenian football player . He is left-footed and can be used on both the left and right side of the wing, and he can also play in attacking midfield.

Career

Birsa's career began at the age of five when he played for NK Bilje , a small football club near Nova Gorica . He later moved to NK Primorje and at the age of 17 to ND Gorica . In the second season he scored 27 goals for his team in the Slovenska Nogometna League . In 2006 he moved to FC Sochaux-Montbéliard in the French Ligue 1 . After several loan deals with AJ Auxerre , he moved to Auxerre in 2009 for 1.5 million euros.

Birsa moved to AC Milan at the end of August 2013 . In return, Luca Antonini moved to CFC Genoa . For the 2014/15 season he moved to Chievo Verona on loan . In 2015 he was finally committed and has been able to establish himself since then. On the first day of the 2016/17 season , he scored both goals in a 2-0 home win against Inter Milan .

National team

Birsa also plays for the Slovenian national team and at the age of 18 was the youngest Slovenian national player to date. Birsa has been an integral part of Slovenia since 2006.
