Leonardo Pavoletti (born November 26, 1988 in Livorno ) is an Italian football player . The striker is currently under contract with the Italian first division club Cagliari Calcio .
Career
In the club teams
Pavoletti began his football career with Gruppo Sportivo CNFO. From 2005 to 2008 he played for Armando Picchi, based in his hometown of Livorno, at the time in the fourth highest Italian league. He then worked at FC Esperia Viareggio , AC Pavia , Juve Stabia and AS Casale . In the 2011/12 season he played for Virtus Lanciano in the third highest Italian league and was top scorer with 16 goals in 33 games.
This was followed by a move to the second division club US Sassuolo Calcio . He scored five times in the first four league games, but gave a positive doping test ( tuaminoheptane ) after a game against Livorno in December 2012 . However, the club was able to avert a suspension and blamed a nasal spray for the result. Pavoletti ultimately helped the club move up to Serie A with eleven goals in 33 games.
Shortly before the end of the 2013 summer transfer window, Pavoletti was awarded to Varese Calcio . With 20 goals in 36 missions, he prevented the club's relegation. The Italian's achievements aroused the interest of international clubs, including allegedly TSG 1899 Hoffenheim . On August 31, 2014, Pavoletti turned down an offer from Leeds United and decided to stay with Sassuolo.
On December 13, 2014, he scored his first goal in Serie A in the 2-1 defeat by Palermo . After rumors of a move to Leeds United surfaced again at the turn of the year - Pavoletti was spotted in the stadium and during training - he switched on loan to FC Genoa. After six goals in ten games, Genoa drew the purchase option of four million euros that had been agreed in the deal in the summer.
Pavoletti played 32 times for Genoa in the 2015/16 season and the first half of the 2016/17 season , scoring 17 goals. This yield prompted SSC Napoli to sign the Italian for 18 million euros in January 2017. After being goalless in six missions until the summer, he was loaned to the Sardinian club Cagliari Calcio. The loan deal also included a purchase obligation of ten million euros, a record amount for Cagliari that came into force on July 1, 2018.
In the 2018/19 season, he scored the sixth most goals of the season in Serie A with 16 goals.
In the national team
Pavoletti was nominated for the Italian national team by both Antonio Conte and Gian Piero Ventura in 2016 , but did not appear. Even Roberto Mancini nominated Pavoletti in November 2018 without using it. On March 26, 2019, Pavoletti made his debut in a 6-0 win over Liechtenstein , in which he scored the goal to the final score.
