The Limhamns IF was a Swedish sports club from Limhamn , a district of Malmö . The club's soccer team played three seasons second-rate in Division 2 in the 1940s .

history

Limhamns IF was founded in 1905. For a long time, the club's football team played only under-class. After the promotion to the third division in the summer of 1941 followed as the season winner of Division 3 Sydsvenska Södra the direct march into the second division. Here, too, the newcomer surprised and placed in his first second division season behind Landskrona BoIS and Jönköpings Södra IF in third place in the table. In the following year, the team outbid success and reached behind Jönköpings Södra IF the runner-up in their second division season. The club was 13 points behind, however, as the competitor made all 18 games of the season victorious. In the season 1945/46 the upswing came to an end, after only four victories the club occupied a relegation place at the end of the season and had to relegate after three years of league membership from the second division. In the following season he managed to place third, but due to a league reform he was relegated to fourth level.

After long years in the lower league area, the Limhamns IF football team returned to the third division at the beginning of the 1962 season, but could only last three seasons here. After rising again in 1966, the club established itself in the long term in the third division and temporarily played to return to the second division. Except for a brief interlude in the fourth division in the 1976 season, the club stayed in the third division until 1980. After the team fell victim to a league reform again in 1986, they said goodbye to higher-class football.

After a short stay in the fourth division in the mid-1990s, Limhamns IF returned to fourth division on Ene of the 2003 season. The team only missed the march into the third division at the end of the following season in the promotion round, when they failed after a 2-1 home win by a 1-3 second leg defeat at the Kalmar AIK . The following year, again victim of a league reform, the club established itself in the fourth division before the football team merged with Bunkeflo IF to IF Limhamn Bunkeflo after the end of the 2007 season .
