Magnus Eriksson (born April 8, 1990 in Solna ) is a Swedish football player . The striker made his debut in 2008 in the Swedish professional football and in 2011 rose to Åtvidabergs FF in the Allsvenskan on. In the course of his career so far he has been under contract in his home country, where he won the championship title twice, in Belgium and in China. He has been playing in Major League Soccer since the 2018 season .

Career

Career start in Sweden

Eriksson started playing football in AIK Solna's youth . There he went through the individual youth teams and recommended himself for the Swedish junior selection. In 2005 he made his debut in the U-15 national team alongside later professional players such as Simon Helg , Astrit Ajdarevic , Ivo Pękalski and Jesper Florén . While he stayed in the national youth teams on the one hand, he moved up to the professional squad at AIK in 2007. In the Allsvenskan , however, he remained without a stake and was given in the following season to the cooperation partner Väsby United in the Superettan . In the second division season of 2008 he played ten games as a substitute for the club, the following year he came to 19 games. During the respective preparations for the season he played for AIK and was also successful as a goalscorer several times.

The second division season 2010 brought Eriksson's breakthrough at Väsby United. He established himself as a regular in the attack and was the club's best internal goalscorer with eleven goals this season - two of them by penalty . Nevertheless, the club ended the season on a relegation zone. Despite the shown goal danger, AIK showed no interest in keeping the player, who then joined the second division Åtvidabergs FF with a two-year contract. There he built on his performance of the previous year. In all 30 games of the season on the field, he scored 15 goals. As the third best shooter of the 2011 season , he played a key role alongside Daniel Hallingström , Kristian Bergström and Jesper Arvidsson in the second division championship and the direct return of the club to the top division. He also proved to be a dangerous striker in the first division and, with ten goals scored by mid-August, he was among the top five players on the 2012 Allsvenskan goalscorer list, behind his teammate Viktor Prodell . At the same time, he had recommended himself for the Swedish U-21 selection , selection coach Håkan Ericson used him for the first time in the 6-0 defeat against Ukraine as part of the qualification for the U-21 European Championship in 2013 at the end of May 2012.

Moved abroad and returned with two championship titles

Eriksson had also drawn attention outside the country's borders. Less than a week before the end of the summer transfer period , he left his home country and joined the Belgian club KAA Gent in the first division . With his new employer, he signed a four-year contract that included Åtvidabergs FF's participation in a resale. Until the winter break, however, he was unable to establish himself, under coach Bob Peeters he only made four appearances in the First Division .

In mid-January 2013 Eriksson returned to his home country Sweden after only six months abroad. He signed a four-year contract with the first division team Malmö FF . At the end of the 2013 season he won the championship title with the team, with eleven goals this season he had made a decisive contribution. In the summer of the following year he reached the group stage of the UEFA Champions League with the club for the first time in club history . Although the team around Markus Rosenberg , Pa Konate , Robin Olsen , Anton Tinnerholm and Enock Kofi Adu were eliminated from the competition as the bottom of the group, they defended theirs in the championship.

National player, move to China and return

On January 17, 2014, Erikson played for the Swedish national team for the first time in a friendly against Moldova (2-1) in Abu Dhabi .

In December 2014, Malmö FF and the Chinese club Guizhou Renhe FC agreed on a change of Eriksson at the turn of the year. After only half a year and seven appearances in the Super League , he moved to the Danish club Brøndby IF in July , with whom he was able to win the runner-up. After just one season, Erikson left the club and returned to Djurgårdens IF in his native Sweden. In his first season he was the top scorer in the Allsvenskan with 14 goals .
