AFC Eskilstuna is a Swedish football club from Eskilstuna that will be competing in the Fotbollsallsvenskan , Sweden's top division, in the 2017 season .
history
Väsby United was created in early 2005 through the merger of the two Stockholm football clubs Väsby IK and FC Café Opera . The merger club took over the starting place of the FC Café Opera in the second-class Superettan in the 2005 season . In its first season, the club occupied a relegation place to third-class Division 1 at the end of the following season . After a draw and a loss to IK Sirius , the club rose to the third division.
Under coach Mikael Stahre , the team rose again in the third division season 2007 as second behind Assyriska Föreningen directly. At the end of 2008, Thomas Lagerlöf took over the team that ended the second division season in 2009 on the last non-relegation place under his leadership . In the following season, the club was already determined to be relegated two game days before the end of the season.
Before the start of the 2007 season, Väsby United signed a cooperation agreement with AIK , in which AIK supports the contract partner in setting up professional structures - for example, the former AIK goalkeeping coach Anders Almgren changed clubs - and in return, Väsby United gives talented players game practice. AIK players like Saihou Jagne , Walid Atta , Martin Kayongo-Mutumba or Viktor Lundberg came to work for the cooperation partner in the Superettan.
At the end of the 2010 season Väsby United rose from bottom of the table in the third division. The following year was marked by economic problems, especially after the cooperation agreement with AIK expired. In the summer of 2012, the club intensified its cooperation with the fifth division Athletic FC , resulting in a renaming to AFC United on July 23 of that year. The relegation succeeded on the last non-relegation place of the northern relay.
In 2014 the club was back in second place and only two years later, after finishing second in the Superettan in 2016 , the team made it to the top division. At the same time, the club merged with the first team of Eskilstuna City FK . Under the name AFC Eskilstuna, the club moved its headquarters from Solna to Eskilstuna and plays its home games in Tunavallen .
