Väsby IK is a Swedish sports club from Upplands Väsby . The club is best known for its soccer and ice hockey teams, which have now merged into independent clubs.

history

Väsby IK was founded in 1924 as a football and athletics club. Soon afterwards, the club also had departments for boxing , cycling , orienteering and a ski section .

Soccer

The club's soccer team initially played lower class. In 1964, the team was promoted to the third-class division 3 Östra Svealand . Here the team established itself in the midfield of the league and fluctuated between front and back places, without being able to intervene in the promotion race, but also rarely being drawn into the relegation battle. After ten seasons, the team could no longer hold the class and had to relegate together with Gustavsbergs IF and Upsala IF in the fourth division.

Although the Väsby IK team was able to line up directly in the fight for promotion, they could only return to the third division after three years as the season winner of Division 4 Stockholm-Uppland at the end of the 1976 season. After the immediate relegation, it took until 1983 before the ascent succeeded again. This time they were relegated and the club survived a league reform in the third division in 1986. In the following season, the team won the season and rose to the second division for the first time.

In the second division Väsby IK found himself directly in the relegation battle, but managed to stay ahead of Skellefteå AIK and IFK Mora . In the following years, the team established itself at the bottom of the league. In 1992 the team finished only last in the spring series and missed relegation in the fall. In the third division season in 1993, the team was second behind Visby IF Gute , but failed in the promotion round to Stenungsunds IF . The following year succeeded with only one season defeat as a season winner before Nacka FF the promotion.

Väsby IK occupied a relegation place at the end of the second division season in 1995. After midfield positions in the following two years, the runner-up behind IF Brommapojkarna succeeded in 1998 , but in the promotion round the club failed to Gefle IF . In the following season, the team remained without a loss of the season and qualified again for the promotion round. After two defeats against FC Café Opera , however, the team only finished second there and again missed promotion. In the following years, the club made it into the promotion round several times, but failed at Bodens BK , Friska Viljor FC and Ljungskile SK .

After the end of the 2004 season, Väsby IK merged with FC Café Opera to form Väsby United .

Trainer

ice Hockey

In 1956 an ice hockey department was established at Väsby IK. In 1965 the team rose to the second division for the first time, in which they subsequently established themselves. In the spring of 1987, the team succeeded for the first time promotion to the Elitserien , from which they were relegated again after a season. The department became independent from the club under the name Väsby IK Hockey .
