Walid Atta (born August 28, 1986 in Riyadh , Saudi Arabia ) is an Ethiopian - Swedish football player with Eritrean roots. As a supplementary player, he was in the squad of the AIK team , which won the championship and national cup double in 2009 .

Career

Career start in Sweden

Atta started playing football at Stendy IF before moving to Gunnilse IS . He made his debut for the club at the age of 17 in the third division Division 2 Västra Götaland .

Before the 2006 season, Atta joined Väsby United . For his new club he played ten games in the Superettan , although he was only in the starting line-up once. However, the team occupied only one relegation place and after a 1-1 draw and a 0-1 defeat against IK Sirius , they had to relegate to the third division Division 1 .

In the following season Atta was able to establish himself in the team. The central defender drew attention to himself when he was able to return to the second division with Väsby United as runner-up behind Assyriska FF . After the end of the season it was announced that he and his teammate Saihou Jagne moved to AIK in the Allsvenskan . There he should ensure more competition in defense.

As a result, Atta was also appointed to the Swedish U21 team. In the 1-0 victory over the Ukrainian youth team in February 2008, he made his debut in the Swedish national shirt. At the beginning of the 2008 season , however, he was initially not part of the 16-player squad, but was in the starting line-up in the 1-0 win against GIF Sundsvall on matchday three. He then shuttled between the first eleven, substitutes' bench and grandstand and was no longer called up in the junior selection. In the course of the year he also ran several times for the cooperation partner Väsby United in order to collect match practice.

Under coach Mikael Stahre Atta was one of the supplementary players at AIK in the 2009 season . In eight league appearances, he contributed to winning the national championship title. When he won the national cup by beating IFK Göteborg 2-0 in the cup final at the end of the season, he was not part of the squad. Shortly after the beginning of the next season he injured his knee and was out for several weeks. Recovered, he first earned a regular place before his contract negotiations with the club failed at the beginning of August. After being sent off a few days later, the club then declared that they would no longer use him until the end of the season. In October, however, he returned to the field and helped his team in the relegation battle. In three games he worked until the end of the season, in which the team moved away from a relegation zone with three wins and finally managed to stay up.

Change abroad and return

After his contract with AIK expired at the end of the 2010 season , the Swedish press reported a move Attas to Croatia to Dinamo Zagreb . At his new club he signed a five and a half year contract, but was loaned directly to the cooperation association NK Lokomotiva Zagreb . In March 2011, he suffered several facial fractures when an opponent hit him with the elbow. Ultimately, he had eight appearances by the end of the summer season, after which he returned to Dinamo. Due to a torn cruciate ligament , he was only able to play the role of the substitute there, until the end of January 2012 he was without a competitive game. The player then terminated his contract with the club.

The reigning Swedish champions and cup winners Helsingborgs IF quickly showed interest in a commitment, a few days after the contract was terminated in Croatia, he was already training with the team at the training camp. Negotiations for a three-year contract were concluded in mid-February. A month later he won his first title with his new employer, in the Supercup with the team around Thomas Sørum , Alfreð Finnbogason and Mattias Lindström, thanks to two goals by Rachid Bouaouzan , he beat his former club AIK 2-0. In a subsequent season overshadowed by various injuries, he reached sixth place with the team in the championship, while he reached the group stage of the UEFA Europa League with her .

Change to Turkey and return to Sweden again

In the summer of 2015 Atta moved to Turkey to the first division club Gençlerbirliği Ankara . In February 2016 he returned to his home in Sweden with his move to Östersunds FK .

National team

After Atta could not play in the national team, he accepted the offer of the Ethiopian national team and made his debut for them in 2014.
