Rachid Bouaouzan (born February 20, 1984 in Rotterdam ) is a Dutch - Moroccan football player. The winger hit the headlines with a brutal foul for which he was sentenced to six months in prison.

Bouaouzan started his professional career in the 2003/04 season at Sparta Rotterdam . In his second season with the Rotterdam club, he made plenty of negative headlines. After a brutal foul on Niels Kokmeijer in the game against the Go Ahead Eagles on December 17, 2004, he came under heavy criticism. Kokmeijer had to end his career due to a complicated broken leg and the Dutch Football Association suspended Bouaouzan for twelve games. His club suspended the player until the end of the season.

Furthermore, he was brought before a court by the Dutch government for assault , which was a unique occurrence in the history of Dutch football. Bouaouzan was sentenced to six months' imprisonment and payment of 100,000 euros in pain and suffering for willful assault, a verdict upheld by the Dutch Supreme Court in April 2008.

At the end of the season Sparta Rotterdam qualified for the promotion play-offs and Bouaouzan scored the winning goal in the last game against Helmond Sport , which qualified for participation in the Eredivisie in the 2005/06 season. In the first division season he was booed in almost every game with every ball contact.

Bouaouzan signed a three-year contract with Wigan Athletic in August 2007 , but did not prevail there and left Wigan again in the summer of 2010 after three years and only one use in the League Cup and moved to Sweden to Helsingborgs IF .

Bouaouzan took part in a training camp with the Moroccan national team in October 2006 in the Netherlands. He has also played for the Dutch U21 national team, but is still eligible to play for both senior national teams.
