The club currently plays in the second highest Norwegian league, the OBOS league . Home is the Fosshaugane Campus with a capacity of around 5,600 seats. The club's colors are white / black / yellow.
history
The association was founded on February 19, 1926 under the name Sogndal Idrettslag , Sogndal IL for short . The first decades after the club was founded were inconspicuous in the lowlands of Norwegian amateur football, before they made it to the third Norwegian league for the first time in 1964.
In 1976, exactly on the 50th anniversary of the club, they made it to the second Norwegian league. In the same year, the largely unknown team achieved a sensation by reaching the Norwegian Cup final. In the final, despite a strong performance, they lost 1: 2 to arch rivals Brann Bergen , who is also on the Norwegian west coast .
Another milestone in the club's history followed in 1981, when they first made promotion to the first Norwegian league, but from which they had to relegate again after only one season.
Two decades as an elevator team followed , commuting back and forth between the first and second leagues. After being promoted in the 2000 season, they stayed first class over a longer distance until 2005, before relegating to the second division again, albeit unhappy. In 2010 , Sogndal managed to return to the Norwegian upper house as champions of the second division, where they were able to hold out until the end of the 2017 season with one interruption in 2015, and then relegated to the second division again.
Known players
Sogndal sees itself as a training association and is considered a talent factory in Norway. Among other things, the future Norwegian national players Frode Grodås , Eirik Bakke , Jostein , Håvard and Tore André Flo come from the club's youth.
The most important personality of the club is Svein Bakke , a member of the "Generation 1976", which advanced to the cup final. With 321 goals in 512 appearances for Sogndal, he is also the club's record scorer. His son Eirik Bakke became the star of the team in the 1990s before he was sold to England to Leeds United for the club's record transfer sum of around € 2.6 million .
