The first divisjon 2000 was the total of the 38th season of the second highest Norwegian football league and the tenth under the name first divisjon . It started on April 30, 2000 and ended on October 22, 2000.

The 14 teams played against each other twice on 26 match days, divided into a first round and a second half. The champion and runner-up went straight to the Tippeligaen. The third-placed player played in the relegation against the twelfth of the Tippeligaen for the last free place for the following season in the Tippeligaen. Because of the increase in the league from 14 to 16 clubs, only the last two teams were relegated to the 2nd divisjon.
