The 2. divisjon 1976 was the 14th season of the second highest Norwegian football league .
mode
A total of 28 teams were divided into three groups. In groups A and B, ten teams each played that did not come from the north of the country. The two group winners were promoted to the 1st division. The runners-up in group A and B played together with the winner of district group IX-X from the third climber. The last two teams were relegated directly to the 3rd division, the last two teams determined the fifth relegated team.
Eight teams from the provinces of Nordland , Helgeland and Troms played in the district group IX-X . The winner qualified for the play-offs for promotion.
