The 1. divisjon 2002 was the 40th season of the second highest Norwegian football league and the twelfth under the name 1. divisjon . The season started on April 14th and ended on October 27th, 2002.

Master Tromsø IL and the second Aalesunds FK rose directly into the Tippeligaen. The third-placed Sandefjord Fotball still had the chance in the relegation against the third-bottom of the Tippeligaen .

Of the newcomers, only FK Oslo Øst could hold the league. Åsane Fotball, Tromsdalen UIL, Lorenskøg IF and Tollnes BK were relegated to the 2nd divisjon .
