The local Ulstein Verft , Kleven Verft , Rolls-Royce as well as other marine technology companies and the small seaport with a fish processing industry are of economic importance for the region . In addition, Ulsteinvik is an important center for the residents of the surrounding communities to meet their daily needs. The regional daily newspaper “Vikebladet Vestposten” also appears in Ulsteinvik.

Neighboring towns are Haddal , Eiksund , Hasund , Dimnøya , Flø and Skeide . The bird island Runde is around 15 km away and can be easily reached via bridges. The connection to Ålesund is via the now well-developed Reichsstraße 61.

Ulsteinvik is the birthplace of jazz musician Kjetil Saunes and athlete Karsten Warholm , who surprisingly won the gold medal over 400 meter hurdles at the 2017 World Athletics Championships in London.

Ulsteinvik is home to the football club IL Hødd .
