Kurt Mørkøre (born February 20, 1969 ) is a former Faroese soccer player and current soccer coach .

Athletic career

Mørkøre began his adult career with KÍ Klaksvík in 1st Deild . He played his first game in the 1-0 away win against HB Tórshavn on the first day of the season. Right on the second matchday he scored his first goal in a 4-0 home win against LÍF Leirvík with the opening goal. In 1988 he moved to league rivals LÍF Leirvík and established himself there as a regular goalscorer. Then Mørkøre returned to KÍ Klaksvík, with the club he won the national cup in 1990 with a 6-1 win against GÍ Gøta and in 1991 together with Todi Jónsson , Jákup Mikkelsen and Allan Mørkøre the national championship title. In 1992 the cup success could be repeated with a 2-1 win against B71 Sandur .

In the spring of 1994, Mørkøre moved abroad for the first time at the start of the season and played at Skarbøvik IF in lower-class Norwegian football. After only three months he moved back to KÍ Klaksvík, where he played a half series. In early 1995 he moved to B68 Toftir , with whom he lost 3-1 to HB Tórshavn in the cup final. In summer Mørkøre rejoined the Norwegians from Skarbøvik IF , after the end of the season he returned to his home club KÍ Klaksvík in autumn. In 1996 he was the top scorer for the first time, two years later he was again with KÍ in the cup final, which, however, was lost to HB Tórshavn 2-0.

After Mørkøre had been under contract with the eventual champions KÍ Klaksvík together with Rógvi Jacobsen , Heðin á Lakjuni and Jan Allan Müller until the end of August and still won the cup 3-1 against B36 Tórshavn , he moved to Sogndal IL shortly before the end of the transfer period again to Norway. After a year and a half in the 1st division , he was promoted to the Tippeligaen with the club at the end of 2000 . With 20 goals this season he was instrumental in the success. In the first division he was denied success, after eight league games in the highest Norwegian league, he returned to KÍ Klaksvík again in the summer of 2001 and was back in the cup final, but lost 1-0 to B36 Tórshavn. After a break of a year, Mørkøre played again in 2004 in lower-class Norwegian football at Eide & Omegn . In 2005 he went back to KÍ Klaksvík for one season. He played his last games in 2007 in the second division for B36 Tórshavn II .

National team

Mørkøre made his debut in the first official international match of the Faroese national team on August 24, 1988 in the friendly against Iceland in Akranes , which was lost 0-1. He was also part of the team that won 1-0 at the Faroe Islands - Austria football match in 1990 . In total, he completed 37 games and scored three goals, of which he succeeded his first on August 8, 1990 to 1-0 lead in a 2: 3 in the friendly against Iceland in Tórshavn . His last game in the national team jersey took place on October 6, 2001 in a 3-0 win in the World Cup qualifier against Slovenia in Ljubljana .

Coaching career

As early as 2002 Mørkøre acted as a player-coach for KÍ Klaksvík in the first division, the season ended in third place. In 2007, his next engagement as a coach followed at B36 Tórshavn , with whom he was again third. The following year Mørkøre went to Norway. Initially he was in charge of Elnesvågen og Omegn IL , from 2011 to 2012 he took over the fourth division club IL Averøykameratene , and then returned to Elnesvågen og Omegn IL for a year .
