Gunnilse Idrottssällskap is a Swedish football club from the Gothenburg district of Angered . The club's team played in the Swedish second division in the 1990s.
history
Gunnilse IS was founded on September 16, 1950. First, the club played unterklassig, before at the end of the 1982 season as the season winner of Division 4 Gothenburg A for the first time the promotion to the third division succeeded. Here she settled directly in the front area and missed the promotion round to the second division as runner-up in 1985 with one point behind Skövde AIK . With the same result, the club survived a league reform at the third level. In the third division, which has now been tightened, the team played against relegation in the first year, but again only a few points were missing for promotion to the second division in the subsequent season. This succeeded in the 1989 season, when Tidaholms GIF and local rivals Holmalunds IF were relegated to the places with only four defeats this season .
In the second division Gunnilse IS initially played against relegation and only barely saved himself in the first two years: in the first season with a point ahead of the highest relegation place occupied by Mjällby AIF , in the following year the tied competitor Jonsereds IF was only overtaken due to the better goal difference. In the third year the club missed the leap into the Allsvenskan with five points behind as second behind BK Häcken in the spring series , otherwise he occupied places in the middle of the league in the following years. In 1995 the youth team caused a sensation when they won both the Swedish junior championship and the Gothia Cup . In 1997 the club was again on the verge of promotion to the Allsvenskan, this time the goal difference decided against the team and they finished third in the table behind Västra Frölunda IF and BK Häcken tied on points. The team was subsequently unable to build on their successes, but qualified as sixth in the table for the newly introduced single-track Superettan . There, however, the level of play proved to be too high and as the bottom of the table, the club rose together with Åtvidabergs FF and Panos Ljungskile SK in the third division.
As third in the table behind Panos Ljungskile SK and Ytterby IS , Gunnilse IS missed direct re-promotion. In the following years, too, places in the front area were achieved, until a league reform in 2005 as table ninth under the third-class Division 2 Västra Götaland missed relegation. As a result, the club established itself at the fourth league level and just missed the return to third division in 2008 with one point behind because season winner IK Oddevold . In 2012, the team was relegated to the fifth highest division . The recovery in 2015 was followed by a direct relegation as penultimate with only four wins in 26 games this season.
